Manuka Honey FAQ
Comvita is New Zealand’s leading producer of Manuka Honey.
The UMF™ (Unique Manuka Factor) trademark was established by the Unique Manuka Factor™ Honey Association (UMFHA). The UMF™ grading system appraises natural markers found in Manuka honey, and assures purity & quality. This is compliant with the recent interim labelling guidelines published by the Ministry for Primary Industries. Not all Manuka Honeys are UMF™ rated – only those which have been independently tested and verified by UMFHA are given a UMF™ rating. For more information visit www.umf.org.nz
The UMF™ grading system has two components which are expressed on any UMF™ licenced honey product: 1. The label claim that it is Manuka, 2. The number – this represents three chemical markers that indicate the content of this honey to ensure purity and quality. This includes the key chemical markers DHA, MGO, and Leptosperin. The Comvita® Manuka Honey Blend is a delicious blend of UMF™ 5+ Manuka Honey, combined with New Zealand forest honeys to bring you a superior tasting blend, rich in floral flavour. UMF™ 5+ is a Manuka Honey with no other added honeys.
Manuka Honey is unique to New Zealand and to obtain pure Manuka Honey is a specialised task for beekeepers. Manuka Honey is more difficult to extract and has a limited harvest period as it is only collected at certain times of the year. The unique properties of Manuka Honey are well understood by consumers around the world, thereby creating a continually high level of demand.
Honey is a natural product, influenced by seasonal and regional conditions. Some areas produce paler honey than others. Like a good wine, honey will grow in flavour and darken with age.
Comvita honeys are pure with no additives.
Nectar from plants is the sugar source for honey. It is collected by bees, stored and ripened in the hive. The resulting honey is rich in natural fructose and glucose. Diabetics should consult their healthcare professional before consuming honey.
Manuka Honey has been taken by pregnant women for many years with no reported problems as a result of its ingestion.
We do not recommend that honey be given to children under the age of one.
No. Manuka Honey that is purchased in a jar is for oral/internal use only. Comvita® recommends sterile medical grade honey for use on wounds.

Comvita has developed Children’s Olive Leaf Complex to appeal to younger taste buds. Children’s Olive Leaf Complex can be given to children over the age of 2 years at a rate of 5mL (1 teaspoonful) twice daily. Children over two years of age may be given the original or peppermint flavoured Olive Leaf Complex at 2.5mL (half teaspoonful) 2 to 3 times a day with food. Take up to 7.5mL daily.
When you start taking Olive Leaf it begins to cleanse your body so you may occasionally feel one or more of these symptoms: mild headaches, rashes, fatigue, diarrhoea, muscle and joint pain. This is known as the “Herxheimer Effect” or healing effect.
Our OLE original and OLE peppermint flavours have been certified Halal and Kosher.
If you are a vegan or vegetarian we recommend that you use the liquid Olive Leaf Extract range which is made from 100% plant derived products. Our current Olive Leaf Extract capsule products contain a gelatin coating which is not suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Propolis FAQ
Propolis is created by the bees from natural sap and resins found on trees. Trees produce these resins at the site of a plant injury and on new shoots. The bees collect the resin and carry it back to the hive where they mix beeswax and enzymes to make Propolis.
Propolis contains high levels of active bioflavonoids, with well known antioxidant properties. Propolis helps to support and maintain a healthy immune system.
The strength of dose is the same, so it is more a question of suitability and personal preference. We recommend Propolis Tincture for teeth, gum and external use; Propolis Extract (alcohol free), Tablets and Capsules to be taken orally for internal use.
Propolis Capsules should be swallowed with water. Propolis Tablets can be swallowed with water or chewed before swallowing. Propolis Extract can be dropped directly into the back of the mouth and throat, or mixed in water and drunk or gargled. Propolis Tincture should be applied directly by the dropper onto the desired area.
Vegetarians should choose the Propolis Tablets rather than Propolis Capsules due to the bovine gelatin in the capsule.

Return is eligible when:
- Product remain sealed and unopened.
- Product is in original condition.
- Product is fully return. Any individual item that was sold in a pack or package, that you would like to return, has to be return in full (in a pack or package)

Return Policy
- The postage of returning the parcel back to us is solely borne by the customer.
- All returns will be refunded within 7-14 working days upon receiving the return items, and after we have verified to be in their original conditions.
- Refunds will be in the form of store credits that can either be used to make another purchase on our website or customer can withdraw from our system to your bank account.
- Store credit withdrawal must be requested by customer within 120 days from the date of purchase. The amount will reflect in your requested bank account within 7-14 working days upon confirmation.
- For purchase made at other retail stores or other e-commerce platform, kindly refer to the respective store’s policy and contact them directly.

Honey can be taken from New Zealand to many other countries. However, the customs officials in each market are able to deny entry of product even if the product is legally sold in their country. Honey cannot be taken to Western Australia, Samoa or Vanuatu. Please check with your local customs website.
